In Tameside, children and families can access fun and interactive groups held at different children’s centres across the borough to help support the child's speech, language and communication skills.
The communication focused groups have been developed by Speech and Language Therapists and are run regularly by trained Early Years workers at a number of local children centres. The groups usually run for six weeks.
The groups are for Mums, Dads and carers who would like some support and advice around developing their child's communication skills. In the groups, children have opportunities to engage and play with other children and parents and carers have opportunities to practice skills that promote early communication in a fun and relaxed way.
Children can be referred to the most appropriate group by their Health Visitor or Early Years Setting. Parents and Carers should talk about any concerns they might have about their child’s speech and language with their Health Visitor or Early Years Setting.
We run:
‘Baby Babble’ groups for babies aged birth-9 months.
‘Small Talk’ groups for babies aged 9-18 months
‘Toddler Talk’ groups for toddlers aged 18-30 months.
The majority of children will need to have attended Toddler Talk before a referral to Speech & Language Therapy will be accepted.
More information about these groups can be found here.
